Target X events

Raising public awareness in over 30 countries

IPPNW medical students and doctors came together in Freiburg and Rotterdam in November for two new Target X events, raising local public awareness of the nuclear threat and generating more enthusiasm for a nuclear-weapons-free world. Since the first Target X in New York´s Times Square in May 2005, groups of students in white lab coats have installed giant red X´s representing the crosshairs of a nuclear target in more than 30 cities around the world, and have engaged curious passersby in conversations about the consequences of nuclear war and the urgency of negotiating a Nuclear Weapons Convention.

Overriding Trident Tour

From September 28th-30th of 2007, a group of more than 30 medical students, doctors and political activists cycled the English countryside from Dover to London in order to reach this conference, informing the public on their way about the dangers of nuclear weapons, holding Target X installations and meeting with mayors and media on the way. Background of the tour was the decision of the British parliament to renew the Trident nuclear weapons program for an estimated cost of £25 billion.

Nuclear Weapons Inheritance Project

The students of the Nuclear Weapons Inheritance Project spent a weekend in London from August 4th to 6th. After intensive briefings and strategy sessions, they went on to the streets on Hiroshima Day to talk to passers-by about what would happen if a nuclear bomb exploded on London.
